ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My name is Aileen Lopez and I create illustrative designs that continually invigorate my love for tattoo design and Japanese animation, when coming up with digital and traditional artwork. Utilizing the skills of tattoo design that was earned during my tattoo apprenticeship in 2019, I maintain emboldened yet neat line work in my drawings. I strengthen those flat colors through shading while sprinkling highlights to emulsify those flat colors to create form and structure that is both intentional and aides in finalizing the work. I have drawn characters from actual serialized works, as well as my very own original characters, where my style can be shown and adored by tweaking the most striking parts of a character. I, then, accentuate those cute aspects: like adding hearts or twinkles to the eyes. I have been adding digital artwork into my body of works and will eventually begin tattooing onto skin. Currently, I have been selling commission pieces that are either done through watercolor or digitally rendered.

I have high hopes to eventually transport these designs to, not only be purchased as decoration or commission pieces, but to also be permanently adorned on people's skin. Because my works are designs, these can be conceptualized for merchandising and brandishing. It is from incorporating all of my previous knowledge from tackling different mediums of artworks and styles, where I believe it can strengthen and prepare me for my future tattoo endeavors. As a conceptual anime artist, I am influenced by artists of anime/manga as well as tattoo artists that specialize in neo-traditional artworks. It is this blend of traditional and digital mediums that help flourish my concepts to become stronger designs that can be appreciated by newcomers and hardcore fans alike.
